Wednesday Session 1

Abstract

The demands placed on school-based speech-language pathologists (SLPs) are unrelenting. Increased workloads, limited opportunities to collaborate with staff and families, and growing compliance demands create a heavy professional load. This session highlights literacy-based practices that maximize SLP time, effort, and impact. Stories are not just books we read with students—they are the architecture of language, identity, and literacy development. Participants will explore the power of narrative-based content, methodologies for incorporating narrative assessment and intervention, considerations for supporting low-incidence populations, and service-delivery models that improve students’ communication outcomes. Through a lens of evidence-based research and human-centered practices, Phuong will guide participants through practical strategies designed to align with the realities of school-based practice. Here’s to the power of stories.
